- Preston City Councillors voted unanimously for the establishment of a Neighbourhood Council for Ingol and Tanterton at the meeting of the full Council on 15th December 2011.
- The formal Orders for the establishment of the Neighbourhood Council were made on 20th December 2011
- The Neighbourhood Council will formally come into being on Sunday 1st April 2012; the start of the Council year.
- The elections for Neighbourhood Councillors will be held on Thursday 3rd May 2012, at the time as the elections for the City Councillors.
- Between 1st April and until the elections for Neighbourhood Councillors on 3rd May, the Neighbourhood Councillors will be the three existing Ward Councillors; Bill Shannon, Pauline Brown and Peter Pringle. This is a necessary legal requirement pending the elections proper.
- The period for nominations for the elections will be open from Wednesday 28th March until Wednesday 4th April 2012.
- Only two people are required to nominate a would be Neighbourhood Councillor.
- Neighbourhood Councillors will be unpaid.
- The Council Clerk will be paid.
- The nominators and the nominees must be residents of the Neighbourhood Council area, basically the Ingol Ward area, and be on the Preston City Electoral Roll for the area.
- Those elected will serve initially for three years. Thereafter elections for the Neighbourhood Council will be held every four years.
- The Steering Group are arranging to hold a Workshop, open to all, for those who might be considering becoming Neighbourhood Councillors or who just wish to know more about the workings of a Neighbourhood Council.
- The Workshop will be held on Monday 13th February 2012, lasting two hours, between 7.00pm and 9.00pm. The venue is to be confirmed. Currently looking to St Margaret's Church Hall.
- Workshop will be run by Bill McEnnerney-Whittle who is a very experienced Parish Clerk. He is currently the Parish Clerk to Hutton PC, Longton PC and Lea and Cottam PC. His help and advice has been invaluable to the Steering Group.
- Posters are being prepared to advertise the Workshop and hopefully interest the community.
- It is intended to leaflet the community week commencing 19th March 2012, giving more details about the Neighbourhood Council and what, hopefully, it can achieve for the area. The aim is, and always has been, 'betterment' of the Neighbourhood Council area to the benefit and well being of the whole community.
