Youths Own Stories

Emma Cottam

My name is Emma Cottam and I am 17 years old.

When I was younger I got into a lot of trouble at school and I must admit out of school, when I was 13 I got in trouble with the police and was on a caution for 5 years.

I was always getting sent home from school almost every day, when I was in year 9 they sent me to Moorbrook which is a school for bad behavioral kid's. When I first got there it was a bit scary as I had left all my friends behind and I did not know anyone.

After the first week I soon got to know everyone and liked going to school, yes, I had my ups and downs but they helped me a lot to find out I can't get in trouble while I was at this school.

From year 9 to year 11 I came out with 8 GCSE and 3 entry levels, I then went on to college but dropped out as I did not enjoy travelling, but as an alternative I joined the Prince of Wales Trust. I completed a 12 week course and in September I am going to Preston College to do a Public Service Course which I think I will enjoy. I want to stick to it and keep out of trouble as when I am older I dont want any regrets as I want to go on to help kid's like myself and let them know there is no future in getting into trouble all the time and that there is a better way to behave.
