As Phoenix from the Ashes Rose

Opened in 1963 by Preston housing team

A new estate was created at Ingol -

Housing the type of which tenants dream

With central heating to make ones skin tingle

No frost on the inside of windows or dumping of ashes

No draughts moving curtains freely blowing through the sashes

No cold outside privy to freeze up each winter

No bare wooden seat to give one a splinter

A jewel in once Proud Preston's crown

Situate near the canal to the N W of  town

This country setting such a welcome retreat

With spick and span houses and gardens kept neat

Every picked tenant then gladly signed to say

They would help keep -this fine estate that way

Be they Father Mother Girl or Boy

No actions they:d take and the  neighbours annoy

A nice place in which many families prospered and grew

Until  moving on to far pastures new

A housing office was then built in Grant on Walk

And opened its doors with smiles and plenty of talk

Inadequate management of this once proud place

Quickly led it into Deprived Area status disgrace

No action taken by those paid out of taxes whilst sitting at the top

This cancerous growth attempted neither to curb or to stop

Dysfunctional Misfits with no action taken again did abound

Wreaking havoc and misery whilst spreading trouble around

Where houses paid for by taxes from those who go out and  work

Freely handed with smiles to those who do nothing  but smirk

One day two neighbours named Gordon and Bill

Decided that they had had more than their fill

So forming the ICA undaunted then tried

To bring this run down estate back to its former pride

Due to efforts taken by Gordon Wang and Bill McGrath

The estate then started slowly back on its torturous path

With the full support  of Police  Inspector Dave Aston of Lea

The  newly formed ICA then threw itself into gear

A meeting with Gateway had promised much

At which certain points were made

Promises quickly kicked into touch

Waving suffering residents felling betrayed

Gateway closed down the Community House

After criticism of the way they had acted

By bringing back those who had once left leaving

Damaged homes with rubbish in  gardens compacted

However things will return to the promise as once intended

If action is taken by reporting to Gateway promptly when feeling offended

Then housing chiefs will have to listen to all who complain  and action take

Returning Community pride and peace once again to this great estate
